Robert Frank, For the Glory of Wind and Water, 1976
“It’s not so much that you want to make beautiful photographs. It’s something else, and that appeals to me. I’m not interested in taking a beautiful photograph. I don’t mean that there’s no room for it; I just don’t want to do it. For example, I live in a very beautiful place. I could get a camera, and make a very beautiful picture. It could be almost as good as Ansel Adams. But I don’t want to take a beautiful picture, and I can’t, really. It makes me feel good to look at it. It wouldn’t make me feel good to take that picture.”

We were going to post a youtube link to watch “Somewhere to Disappear” (the documentary following Alec Soth as he makes Broken Manual) but then we saw you can rent it for 4 days for $4 from the official site - www.somewheretodisappearthefilm.com, so go there instead, it’s worth $4 (roughly £2.55)
